About AMA+ Scholarship:
The AMA Arts Scholarship Projectย is a remarkable global initiative by the prestigious Korea National University of Arts. This initiative is geared towards educating students and disseminating the beauty of Asian arts on a global scale, positioning the university as a leading force in global education. Also known as AMA+ Scholarship, this project is one of the most esteemed scholarships that helps students to come and study in South Korea for free.
The Korea National University of Arts aspires to play a leading role in global education, promoting the development of artistic elites through the provision of full scholarship grants. The ultimate aim is to establish a central hub for cultural artists and lay the groundwork for an international institution dedicated to art education.
AMA Arts Scholarship Benefits:
- Airfare: Grantees will receive an economy-class airplane ticket for travel between their home country and Korea, covering both entrance and graduation.
- Monthly Allowance: A monthly stipend of 800,000 KRW will be provided to the scholarship recipients.
- Korean Language Training: Prior to enrollment, grantees will undergo a 6-month intensive language training program to enhance proficiency.
- Tuitions: Full coverage of tuition fees for regular semesters is included in the scholarship benefits.
- Settlement Allowance: A one-time allowance of 200,000 KRW is provided to assist with the initial settlement upon arrival in Korea.
- Graduation Thesis Allowance: A grant of up to 1,000,000 KRW is allocated to support the completion of the graduation thesis.
- Korean Proficiency Grants: Recipients will receive 100,000 KRW per month for one year to encourage and reward proficiency in the Korean language.
- Medical Insurance: Grantees will be covered under Korea’s National Health Insurance for the duration of their scholarship.
AMA+ Admission Schedule:
- February, 2023: Application Guideline Release: The application guidelines for the 2024 session will be made available in February 2023.
- March 23 ~ April 2, 2023: Online Application Period: The online application link will be active from March 23 to midnight on April 2, 2023. All application documents must be submitted within this timeframe.
- May 1, 2023: Admission Notification: Notification regarding the Korean Language Test schedule and information will be released.
- May 18~19, 2023: Korean Language Test: This test is not a substitute for the TOPIK test. Results complement existing Korean proficiency proofs. The test will be conducted online, with individually arranged date and time.
- June, 2023: Department Review & Interview (Optional)
- July 3, 2023: Final Grantee Notification
- July, 2023: Submission of Original Application Documents: Original application documents must be submitted via post or in person.
- September 1~3, 2023: Entry to Korea
- September 2023 ~ February 2024: Pre-Entry Korean Language Training
Eligibility Criteria for AMA Arts Scholarship:
- Nationality Requirement: Eligibility extends to individuals holding citizenship in OECD DAC Recipient Countries, including both the applicant and their parents. For the current list of eligible countries, refer to the 2022-2023 OECD DAC Recipient Country List here.
- Academic Requirement: Applicants must have completed or anticipate completing secondary education or a bachelor’s degree program before admission to K-Arts.
- Bachelor’s program applicants must possess a high school diploma. Those from countries with less than 12 years of preliminary and secondary school education can be eligible if they’ve completed an education program recognized by the Korean Ministry of Education as equivalent to high school graduation.
- Master’s program applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent diploma.
- Applicants anticipating graduation by February 28, 2024, must submit a certificate of expected graduation during the application and provide the official graduation certificate (degree or diploma) to K-Arts no later than February 28, 2024.
- Applicants expecting to graduate by February 28, 2024, must demonstrate eligibility for exemption from Korean Language training, holding TOPIK level 5 or above. Otherwise, all final grantees must participate in Korean Language training starting from September 2023.
3. Language Requirement: Applicants must meet the specified Korean proficiency level set by each department when applying.
- Valid TOPIK scores are necessary; however, equivalent documentation such as certificates of course completion from the King Sejong Institute or certificates from Korean language institutes run by Korean universities, issued within the last 2 years, will also be considered.
- Applicants passing document screening without a valid TOPIK score may need to take a Korean Language Test administered by K-Arts. The result serves as complementary material and does not substitute for a TOPIK score.

4. Artistic Talent:
- K-Arts emphasizes a practical and comprehensive major curriculum for nurturing professional artists. Applicants must demonstrate the necessary skills and talents through portfolio submissions, unless otherwise specified as “portfolio not required.”

5. Entry to Korea:
- Final Grantees are expected to arrive in Korea and undergo Korean language training before commencing their degree program, unless already holding TOPIK level 5 or 6.
- All grantees should enter Korea by the beginning of September 2023, with TOPIK level 5~6 holders exempted from language training.

- Recommendations must be signed within the last 6 months from the submission date. Additional admission points may be granted for references from government agencies, particularly ODA agencies and/or the Korean Embassy, or representatives of public educational/cultural institutions.
Letter of Consent (Release of Information Form): - Official High School Diploma (Certificate of Prospective Graduation) and Official Diploma Certificate (or Certificate of Completion/Enrollment) from Previously Enrolled School/University:
- Documents must be translated, notarized, and authenticated by a Korean Consular or Apostilled.
Official High School/University Academic Transcript: - Translated, notarized, and authenticated by a Korean Consular or Apostilled.
A Copy of Passport: - If a passport is unavailable, provide a copy of a valid local ID card.
Official Document Indicating Nationality of the Applicant & His/Her Parents: - Birth Certificate or Certificate of family registration issued by the government of the applicantโs citizenship.
- Original Copy for Proof of Language Proficiency: TOPIK or its equivalent for Korean.
TOEFL, IELTS, TEPS, etc., for English when required. - Portfolio: Ensure your name is printed on each page/item of the portfolio in case of missing items.
